It's Garbage Day.

26.6 degrees and the moon is huge and super-bright at 6:50 a.m.

The WKTV weather forecast: "High pressure in control of our weather will bring abundant sunshine to Central New York again today. Highs in the upper 30s to low 40s. Clear skies tonight, with a few clouds towards daybreak. Overnight lows in the low 20s.

Partly sunny tomorrow and dry with highs near 40. Clouds increase on Wednesday with the next chance for rain arrives on Thursday with highs in the upper 40s!"

It's been busy, lately!

The Cookie Sale at the Methodist Church was a big success.
The Three Steeples Advent gathering at Grace Episcopal Church was well-attended.
The service organizations held their annual holiday party at the Masonic Temple on Saturday evening and
"Jubilation's" concert was yesterday afternoon in Hamilton.

Church parking lots were full in the morning, and for a while in the afternoon there were few parking spots to be found along West Main Street or in front of Dollar General or CVS!
It was brisk, outdoors, but a steady stream of cars went through the car wash and more and more Christmas Trees left the park.

Those posts still standing upright, in the lefthand side of the picture, used to support a double row of trees - perhaps as many as a hundred - and I watched as one family walked back and forth along another row, picking out their special tree.

This is the one!

And away it goes! Let the decorating begin!

It was barely dusk when the lights on the tree in the Bandstand came on. Yes: it's a really tall tree and now there are lots and lots of lights!

I stopped to admire the panel thst is now in place on the front door of Bonnie Bechy and her daughter Joanna's home on Babbott Avenue .......

.............. and the "antique" sled and pretty greenery on the porch of #241 Sanger Avenue.

IN THE MAIL

Every time that I receive Email from Jody Hildreth - either a note or photographs - I learn something new. This time it's about those big birds that I saw at Edie Eastman's, last week: they WERE NOT "Sea Gulls." (Read on...)

Jody wrote: "I saw your posts on the blog recently about the gulls at Edie Eastman's. Those would be Ring-billed Gulls. They are fairly common around farmlands. They like to follow plows and retrieve the worms/insects that the farm machinery unearths.

As for the word 'seagull,' that is a pet peeve of mine. There actually is no bird called a 'seagull'. There are several different kinds of 'gulls', but you will not find a species in any field guide named 'Sea' gull."
(I never knew that, Jody! Thank You!!!)

*****************

A blog reader asks for help from "experienced" toy collectors determining the age of this unusual hand made model / toy helicopter and the nationality of the pilot. (She thinks he might be British or Australian, and calls him Reggie!)

She writes: "The helicopter is 27"long and about 12" high. The rotors are 26" long. Reg is 6" high sitting down - he just won't stand up to get his full height!"

Any thoughts?

Thanks to Debra Atkinson who answered Mark Mowrey's request for the names of service men and women currently on deployment overseas. Their Reindeer Care Kits produced by the Scouts of Troop 108 will soon be on the way!
