SPECIAL: Lemery Pleads Not Guilty

From WKTV: "Waterville Phys Ed teacher pleads not-guilty to sexual abuse of girl."

58 degrees and dry at 6:30

The WKTV Weather Forecast: "A taste of early fall in Central New York today! Mostly cloudy skies with lake effect rain showers, especially north of the Mohawk Valley. Cooler and breezy, with highs in the upper 60s. Mainly clear tonight with overnight lows in the 40s.

High pressure builds in tomorrow and Wednesday, bringing a return to sunshine and warmer temperatures.

A cold front brings a round of rain showers and thunderstorms Thursday. Sunshine returns Friday.

Our eyes will be on the tropics over the next few days. Hurricane Irene looks to impact the southeast. This system may impact our weather this weekend, potentially bringing some rainfall to the area. We'll keep you posted."

Announcements, Correction and Request

From Municipal Hall, correcting an error in an earlier list of bands performing on Wednesday evenings at the Bandstand:

"Next week the 24th, Matt Chase will be playing and on the 31st, Mike Hoke playing traditional Irish music."

From Amanda Briggs, at the Waterville Public Library:

"We will be having our end of summer carnival on Saturday, August 27th from 12-3pm. We have a carnival every year to celebrate all the hard work the kids have done over the summer with their reading. We will have live music, games, food, face painting, free ice cream sundaes and a bounce house. We always seem to be a little short staffed and this year we are looking for more volunteers. Volunteers can be teens or adults. We will need volunteers to run games (we hope to have one game station per person), monitor the bounce house, run the ticket stand, help out with the craft station, serve ice cream sundaes and run the food booth. If anyone is interested in helping out at the carnival please send me an email and we can sign you up."

From Rod Manion, Secretary of the Waterville Fish & Game Club:
"I'm sorry to report that the fish and game club will not be holding our Kids fishing derby this year. We were suppose to have it on the last Sunday in July, but with the improvements being made at Chittning Pond we were holding off until the 28th of August. We found out from the contractors that they will not be finished. We will be holding it again next year on the last Sunday in July."

Saturday afternoon in Bouckville.

Here and there the aroma of Chicken BBQ reached out to me ..........

My very first car was a 1949 MG. I wonder what this is / was?

Meanwhile, back in Waterville ..................

............. it was quiet on Main Street.

............ but a large and happy crowd gathered at St. Bernard's to celebrate the Forty-year Jubilee in honor of Father Paul Carey who was ordained May 29, 1971 and was named pastor of St. Bernard's in Waterville in July, 2010.

After an outdoor mass, parishioners enjoyed a potluck picnic and lined up for a turn in a "bounce house!"

Yesterday afternoon I spotted this enormous "18-wheeler," the Library of Congress's "Gateway to Knowledge," parked a bit south of Franklin Springs on Route 12B.

I hoped that it would be stopping somewhere near Waterville, but, according the the schedule on that link, the next official stop will be at the Amsterdam Free Library on the 23rd and 24th.

Perhaps the drivers / docents were taking a day off and visiting friends or relatives in the Clinton area.

The paving of Berrill Avenue is complete and the "tree belt" has been seeded.

In Marshall Township, there's a new, super-smooth surface on Sally Road from Forge Hollow to Fuess-Cleary Road.

Everywhere, hop cones are ripening ...........
