It's Recyclables Day

40 degrees and dry at 5:30

The weather forecast from WKTV: "A mostly cloudy start to the day, but the weather looks to turn a bit unsetttled. An area of low pressure sliding up a cold front will bring some light rain to parts of the area by this afternoon. Highs in the low to mid 50s. Mostly cloudy tonight with lows in the upper 30s.

A big cool-down in the works for tomorrow and Friday. The air will be cold enought to generate lake effect snow showers. With an anticipated westerly wind, most of the snow showers are expected to occur north of the Mohawk Valley. The NWS has issued a lake effect snow watch for Lewis County because accumulations are possible across the Tug Hill Thursday and Thursday night.

Warming up and drying out just in time for the weekend. Aside from a brief shower late Sunday, the weekend is expected to stay dry."

I missed all of the action (of installing the wreaths on our Victorian lamp posts) but the results of the DPW's day's work are worthy of applause!

Also New

Construction has been under way for the past week or so - even during the snowstorm! - on an addition to one of the houses at the top of the Buell Avenue hill.

IN THE MAIL

From Lynn and Darin Cope, this great photograph of their daughter, Keely, who completed her 2011 snowmobile drag racing season winning 21 first place finishes along with 5 second place finishes. Keely raced in many parts of the Northeast such as Snow Bash in Ohio, NY, the Albany area and all the way up to Epping, NH, racing alongside many seasoned professional racers.

Keely and her chief mechanic - "Dad."

There was a message for Keely that came with the picture: "Congrats Keely! your grandpa Albert would be so proud of you! We are already looking forward to your race season next year! We are so proud of you…………….Love, Mom and Dad and Katie (Rita)"

LOOKING FOR RUTH STRICKLAND ALLEN!

Considering her relative youth, Yvonne Durant Brady is one heck of a good historian! She's worked with Marshall Township Historian Dorothy McConnell for several years and is now researching the history of the Kirkland Town Library. To that purpose she's searching for a photograph of Ruth Strickland Allen, who was President of the Board of Trustees of the Kirkland Town Library when she passed away in 1923. Allen was survived by two daughters, Elisabeth and Jane, and a stepson, John B. Allen. All regular archival sources having failed to resolve the search, Yvonne hopes that there may be some descendants still living in this area who have a family photograph of Mrs. Allen. Please Email me, if you can suggest someone to contact, and I'll let Yvonne know!
