It's Garbage Day

53 degrees, dark and drippy at 7:30

WKTV's Forecast: "A wet start to our Thursday as a cold front crosses the area. Clouds, showers, and a west breeze will be around for most of the day. Highs early in the mid 50s, with falling temperatures throughout the day.

Cool air continues to drain in tonight, with lake effect snow showers developing after midnight. Little accumulation. Lows in the 30s.

Much cooler by Friday, with lake effect snow and rain showers. Little accumulation. Temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s. With winds from the west 10-20mph it will feel more like the mid 30s throughout the day.

Drying out by the weekend with temperatures returning to the upper 40s and low 50s."

My car thermometer - registering the outdoor temperature, of course - read 74 degrees when I took this picture of Main Street..............

......... and a nice breeze had all of the whirlygigs spinning in front of Morgan's.

The same breeze kept the big flags fully displayed out at the Clifford J. Fulmer Post of the American Legion, on Route 20.

If you drive through Franklin Springs on Route 12B, be sure to slow down or even stop to
look at the scores of miniature flags that have been placed on the lawn of the Helmuth-Ingalls Post as a very special Veterans Day memorial.

FOR THE RECORD

In yesterday's Observer-Dispatch there appeared the obituary of Lee Kreinheder of Clinton, who had died at the age of 102. Although not many Watervillians may have known her, throughout Clinton and "on the hill" she was considered "royalty," if there ever were such. I met Lee in 1970, I think. I had shown up early one morning as a new volunteer "weeder" in the Root Glen gardens and she was already at work raking the red stone pathways leading from the parking lot into the glen. She smiled. Her eyes sparkled. She spoke softly but with a sincerity that made everyone who met her feel extra-special. Supportive of several community organizations, she devoted a great deal of her time to Root Glen, the new Peony Garden, AND to her other passion: croquet! (I used to make special "Alice in Wonderland" croquet notepaper for her.)

I always felt privileged to be included in any of her gatherings and right from the beginning of our long friendship I always wanted to be just like her when I grew up! I'll never make it - there was only one "Lee."
