From John Savage:

WATERVILLE JR. PEEWEE TEAM GOES UNDEFEATED

"It’s been five years since a Waterville Junior Pee Wee team has swept the Tri-Valley 3B league with a perfect 7-0 record. In 2006 the Pee Wees were the first Pop Warner team in our history to go un-defeated in the regular season. Many of the players from that team are now Sophomores and Juniors on the varsity squad.

This year's Junior Pee Wees have something in common with the group that accomplished a similar feat in 2006, and that would be Head Coach Bob Piersma. Coach Piersma’s team has run roughshod over their rivals beating Canastota 12 -6, Frankfort 20 – 6, Mt. Markham 39 -6, Mid York (Hamilton area) 32 – 0, Sauquoit 12 -0, Westmoreland 13 -0, and finishing up last Sunday against Clinton 20 – 6. The Pee Wees are the only un-defeated team entering the play-offs and will be competing with three other teams for the over-all Division 3 title.

Waterville hosts Mohawk at 12 noon this Sunday at Brothertown Stadium for the first round of the playoffs. Coach Piersma claims this year’s team has been successful by benefiting from good team speed and a tenacious defense. Coach Bob’s best defense might be his “ground and pound” offensive approach which wears out opponents and keeps their offenses on the sideline. Coach Piersma is joined by assistant Coaches Mark Evans, Brian Johnson, and “Coach in Training”, John Piersma, Bob’s son and sophomore quarterback for the Waterville varsity squad (and former member of the 2006 Tri-Valley Champions) . All Waterville football fans should make a point to come out and support the young athletes this Sunday."

"The Jr. Pee Wees are: Alec Blinebry, Derek Buell, Luke Campion, Matthew Campion, Alex Dabis, Payne Desantolo, Max Elliott, Joshua Ford, Justin Henty, Darren Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Dylan Morris, Ryan Morris, Justin Piersma, Cody Spooner, Dalton Szewczyk, Joshua Vleer-Elliott and Jacob Sweifel."

From Hank Gardner, Buffalo Junction, Virginia: "Last week, while attending a conference in Panama, I met the Ambassador, Phyllis M. Powers. When I read her bio. it stated that she was from Utica, New York. While talking with her she told me that she only lived there for a couple of years. I told her that I had lived in Waterville and to my surprise she said that her father had graduated from Waterville High School. During our discussion I neglected to ask for her maiden name.*
She did say her father was born in 1930. At the conference the consultants and heads of school visited at her official residence for drinks etc. She was one of the best Ambassadors for mingling with the guests and chatting. That nice trait probably came from her father because he lived in The Huddle." (Thanks, Hank - as always!)

* In a Tuesday morning note from Hank, he has now found the Ambassador's father - David Powers - WHS Class of 1948!

Here & There

Yesterday was another gray day, and I cruised here and there looking for something unusual to take a picture of. I drove out to Camp Road, west of Sangerfield, thinking that there might be hundreds of Canada Geese on the ponds at "Bird World' -- there weren't; but there were plenty of other critters in the menagerie to look at!

Just about across the road from the fenced areas is "Vera's Pond" .........

.................. and a few feet farther along I spotted several little "ghosts" dancing in a ring around a very spooky witch!

Lacking any other photos for the day, I dug through my computer to find this 2002 montage of "Autumn on the Marshall Trail" ...................

........................... and this especially large file of Maple Leaves, in case anyone wants some bright new wallpaper!" (Click once, then click again!)

Have a good day, everyone!
