Today is Garbage Day!

BIG TRASH COLLECTION IS TOMORROW

Its 52 degrees at 5:15.

FROM WKTV: "If you picked this week for vacation, you picked a good week! The nice weather we saw over the 4th of July weekend is back again today. Lots of sunshine, with high temperatures in the mid 80s. A light breeze to go along with the nice weather this afternoon as well.

The next storm system arrives tomorrow, bringing Central New York a round of showers and thundestorms as a cold front passes through. Turning less humid and sunny again on Thursday and Friday.

The weather looks mainly dry and sunny heading into Boilermaker Weekend. The chance of a shower or thunderstorm looks possible Sunday afternoon."

There's an old saying about corn: "knee-high by the Fourth of July."

I didn't have an actual person by which to measure this crop of corn at the top of Grant Hill, but it certainly seems to be at least "knee-high" to the blog car!

My hops poles, at a good fifteen feet or so, seemed tall until I saw the poles at
the Foothills Hop Farm in Munnsville, on Saturday.

There are hundreds of poles in this hop yard - one of several - and each is 22 feet long: four feet in the ground; eighteen above.

I had a nice long chat with Kate Fisher, who, along with her husband, has spent the last ten years developing the farm.

Featured in an article in the Syracuse Post-Standard on June 22, "Foothills" is located just a bit south of Munnsville on Route 46 and, as well as a complete brewery store, has a cute little museum/gift shop the centerpiece of which is a large BEARDSLEY Hop Press, made in Waterville, about which are clustered several pieces of hop equipment, containers filled with artificial hops from England, hop soaps and a shelf of hop mustards.

IN THE MAIL

From Lou Langone: "At the Waterville Rotary Club's annual Changing of the Guard, last Thursday evening, when the outgoing president normally passes the gavel to the incoming president, outgoing first lady, Heather Freeman, wife of outgoing president Scott Freeman, made up for lack of an actual gavel and jokingly crowned Bill Getman with a tiara. We wonder - "Is he being crowned president or first lady - or both?"

Thanks, Lou, and Congratulations, Bill!
