Afternoon Treat at Roc's

Just a passing glimpse of the raised border in front of the Tilbe residence on Rt. 12, south of CVS.

A "slow down" in Forge Hollow.

Expect delays while the State cleans out overgrowth between the guard rails and Big Creek on "the bend" and lines the bank with rip-rap.

Take a few minutes - or longer - to enjoy the garden behind the Library ............

................ and to enjoy the scent of the lilacs right next to the side parking area!

(I don't know what variety they are: smaller and later than traditional lilacs, but doubly-sweet!)

THE GARDEN CLUB PLANT SALE,

which took place last Saturday, was - according to Wendy Sexton - the most successful ever.

There were a few plants left over and they are next to her Putnam Street driveway,
now On Sale for $2 per container.

NEWS of LOCAL INTEREST

"Sheriff's deputy killed in shoot-out after Knoxboro standoff" O-D.

Latest: "Sheriff Deputy Shot and Killed......." WKTV.

IN THE MAIL

Shirley Bynum Smith, who grew up in Hanover, read yesterday's list of favorite "watering holes" and immediately wrote to say that there was one missing: "Carl's" - which was on Route 20, past Alcott's. (I've added that to the list! Thank you, Shirley!)

Gil Condon wrote, "A neat list. Me Bro Dan had the Gulf Station between Tyler's Plymouth and the A&P* after the war for a few years. Gas was 17 cents, oil changes were about a buck . We need Jack or someone to elaborate a little on some stuff - like the 'Still' east of the canning factory!"

* The A&P was where "The Huddle on Main" is, now, and the Gulf Station stood on the Belfield Insurance Agency site.

(Thanks, Gil. Perhaps we can get Jack (Youngs) to write a story about the still, sometime!)

Thanks, as well, to Jody Hildreth for this amazing close-up of a peony blossom!

It's going to be another "scorcher," so keep cool, everyone, and
